Wisconsin’s Miniature Horse Rescue
Giving forgotten miniature horses a second chance — from kill pens and neglect to safe pastures and loving homes.
Donate & Save a Life
In 2019, Rob and Becky stumbled across a Facebook post about miniature horses in danger — horses nobody else was coming for. They couldn’t scroll past. That moment started something they never could have planned.
The rescue is named after Little Tyke, their very first rescue. Little Tyke stole their hearts completely, but tragically passed away from bastard strangles, a devastating bacterial infection. His name lives on in every horse they pull from danger.
What began as two people answering a call has grown into a full sanctuary — a place where frightened, malnourished, and traumatized minis learn to trust again.
Miniature horses are often overlooked even at kill pens — too small to be seen as “useful,” too numerous to save individually. The reality of what awaits them is heartbreaking.
Kill pens are crowded, chaotic, and terrifying. Minis are often overlooked by buyers and left behind when time runs out.
Some miniature horses are purchased to serve as live feed for large predators at roadside attractions and private zoos.
Without rescues like ours, many minis face slaughter or end up in abusive situations with no way out.
“Rob and Becky provide an incredibly high level of care for every horse at Lil Tyke's Rescue and Sanctuary. These animals are in the best possible hands.”
Veterinary care provided by Country View Equine Clinic — Oregon, Wisconsin
As long as minis end up in danger, we’ll keep showing up for them.
Many of our horses arrive deeply frightened. We’re committed to the patient, long-term work of rebuilding their trust.
Socialization is medicine. We welcome volunteers to visit, halter-train, and help with therapy sessions that transform these little horses.
Our goal is always rehoming — connecting rehabilitated minis with loving families where they can thrive.
Your donation covers hay, feed, farrier visits, veterinary care, and the daily cost of keeping 21 horses safe and loved. No amount is too small — and every bit gets us closer to the next rescue.
